This Rural-Urban Emergency Unit review Workshop is an in-person 8-hour (1 day) session to boost the skills and knowledge in the Emergency Department. New LPNs/RNs are welcome to attend our our workshop with our experienced ER Registered nurse and CNE!

About the Event

This Rural-Urban Emergency Unit Review Workshop is an in-person 8-hour (1-day) session to boost the skills and knowledge in the Emergency Department. New LPNs/RNs are welcome to attend our workshop with our experienced ER Registered nurse and CNE!

a) General Expectations in Rural ER

b) Scope of Practice and competency review

c) Understanding the layout and process of admitting and triaging

d) CTAS (Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale)

e) Introduction to Trauma room, Resuscitation and Observation rooms

f) Flow of patients/admitting/coordinating

g) Transportation and communication

h) Working along the side of paramedic

i) Making use of available resources

j) Crash cart and defibrillators

k) Ventilators

l) Airway management and equipment

m) Continuing competency education

n) Bedside monitors/ functions

o) Isolation and precautions practices

p) Critical thinking

q) Time management

r) Different types of Diagnostic Modalities and referral systems

s) Trauma care

t) Roles and responsibilities

u) Task delegation

v) Crisis intervention

w) Code white

x) Drug overdose management

y) Policy and procedure

OBG/Pediatric/Adult emergency management

Prerequisites for this workshop are recommended for Internationally Educated Nurses only:

1) IEN Path to Success workshop

2) Physical assessment and lab review

3) Basic and 12 lead ECG interpretations

4) Cardiology review

Upon successful completion of the 8-hour workshop, each participant shall receive a certificate of attendance.
